| Sensei Bill Dufour, started training in
Shotokan karate in 1984. He trained in Shotokan for two years. In the fall of 1986, Sensei Dufour, became a student of Sensei Phil Zaharik, of the White Rock Kyokushin Karate School. Sensei Bill Dufour, trained under Zaharik, Sensei's guidance for the next 12 yrs. In 1989 Sensei Zaharik, ended his affiliation with the IKO - Kyokushinkai, Sensei Bill Dufour, continued training with the White Rock Karate School until in January of 1991, when he and his family moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia On September 07/1995 the "Dawson Creek Karate School" was opened. In July of 1996 Sensei successfully graded to Shodan under Sensei Zaharik. In August of 1998, Bill decided to investigate the option of rejoining the Kyokushin family. After many long discussions with Roman Szyrajew, Shihan of Montreal, Quebec, our school joined the IKO - 3, under Kancho Tezuka. Shihan Roman, came to Dawson Creek, BC to give seminars, meet the students and to grade in November 1998. Bill was graded to Nidan. The students had an awesome time training with Shihan Roman, and learned a great deal about themselves and their school. Sensei John Adams from Pullman, Washington on the west coast of the USA and a few of his students drove up to train with us and Shihan Roman, as well. On March 26/2000 Sensei Bill Dufour, was graded by Kancho Matsushima, and Shihan Roman, to Sandan. Since joining the IKO 3, Shihan Yoshikazu Matsushima, has replaced Shihan Tezuka, as president of the IKO 3. Bill has had the pleasure, and honor of training with many Kyokushin "Budo-ka". Some of these people are: Kancho Matsushima, (Gumma, Japan), Shihan Roman Szyrajew, (Laval, Canada), Sensei Joe Addesso, (St Leonard, Canada), Sensei Pauline Racine, (Le Gardeur, Canada), Sensei John Kalaidopoulos, (Beaconsfield, Canada), Sempai Angel Carrasco, (Winnipeg, Canada), Sensei Laurier Goudreault, (Ottawa, Canada), Shihan Tom Flynn, and Sempai Toni Flynn, both of (Boston, USA), Shihan Randolph James, (New York, USA), Sensei Martin Petrovich, (Maine, USA), Sensei John Adams, (Washington, USA), Shihan Marc Van Walleghem, (Belgium), and Shihan Josef Borza, (Hungary). Shiha Roman makes regular visits to our dojo, and we look forward to many more! Osu! |
