K1 Grand Prix Finals Summary |
The biggest and best Kickboxers of the world met Sunday, December
13th, 1998 in Tokyo Dome for
the K1 world championship.
Best Fights |
|
Mike Bernardo (Winner) VS Filhio |
Both huge and massive. Pounding at each other. Mike used almost no kicks but punched hard and hit the target (his left shot through Filhio's defence several times) Filhio kicked very quickly (amazing for such a big and massive guy) but always opened up his defence and Mike' counterattacks hit the target. Filhio was knocked down twice and that was it. |
Peter Arts (Winner) VS Satake |
Peter Arts erased the japanese hope Satake. Although Satake put on some solid muscles and looked in better shape ever, he simple stood no chance. Peter slapped him around from the beginning and finished the fight in about 30 seconds. Peter was simply awesome. |
Andy Hug (Winner) VS New guy from New Zealand |
Andy Hug against a relatively new guy from New Zealand (forgot the name). The new guy looked very good in previous bouts but this fight was all Andy Hug's. Hug displayed a variety of punches, kicks, combinations. One happened to look forward to what kind of attack he is gonna use next to surprise his opponent. The new guy was worn out soon, went down twice and that was it. |
Sam Greco (Winner) VS Hoost |
Well to cut the story short. Hoost was not himself this night. He looked thin and sickly. And Greco was strong and looked bigger than ever. Greco is a fighter with so much heart. Hoost gave up. |
Mike Bernardo VS Peter Arts (Winner) |
Bernardo against Peter Arts. Unbelievable, Bernardo was knocked down twice by punches from Arts. Arts is famous for his devastating kicks and knees but here he showed that he has the punching power to knock down a massive monster (112 kg on 1, 93 cm) like Bernardo. Arts was awesome. |
Sam Greco VS Andy Hug (Winner) |
Sam Greco against Andy Hug. A very even match, which Greco lost by decision (Hug, draw, Hug). In the last round Hug got in a lot of good punches and that helped him to win the judges decision. |
Peter Arts (Winner) VS Andy Hug |
The fight started off amazingly. Simultaneously, both fighters
gave it an all power roundhouse kick and both fighters flew through the ring. And then
Peter Arts showed what every muay thai fan, craves to see. Knees after knees, flying knees
and a right and left roundhouse kick combination that hit Hug at the back of his had and
knocked him down. After that he just kept on sitting in the ring and didn't get up
anymore. It was over and that in only seconds. The crowd in the Tokyo Dome was somewhat disappointed for they expected a battle between these two popular fighters but witnessed a tornedo called Peter Arts devastating his opponent not even half way through the first round. Peter Arts dominated through out every fight and well deserved to be the champion. I dare to say he is the most gifted kick boxer in his weight and size class. |
