INFORMATION ABOUT
TAEKWONDO JUNIOR NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

If your children are interested in competing on a nationals levels, then this information could be useful to you, so you can understand better where your loves ones are going and what is involved, maybe it can help you to guide them in the right direction.
In the Junior National competitions your children would be competing according to theirs age and their weight. The age for the competitors are between 10 and 17 years. Below there is a table which will help you to see in which division your children would be competing.
Your children must be a black belt and have a certification from the Kukkiwon in order to participate in this national event. Also your must have a copy of their birth certificate, because you will have to attach it to the registration form.
In some provinces your children will have to participate in regional tournament in order to qualify for the Junior National.
You must also want to take in consideration the expenses involve in this event :
- Registration fee (Around $50.00)
- Traveling expenses if the Competition is out of your city. (Airline tickets or others,  Accommodations, Food). Depending where you live from the host city, it could easily add to $400 or $500 dollars.

The next Junior National Competitions will be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday June 29, to July 1, 2007.  Saint John, New Brunswick, would be the host for this Tournaments.

JVK Taekwondo under the direction of Grandmaster Chong Soo Lee, will take the challenge and responsibility of organizing the 2007 Junior National Taekwondo Championships. Below you will find same basic information.

Tournament General Information

There will be no poomse (forms), board breaking, self-defense or weapons competitions at the 2007 Junior International Taekwondo Championships. This tournament is for WTF sparring competitors only. As such, only recognized WTF schools and competitors will be allowed to participate. Practitioners of other styles of martial arts (Karate, Kung-fu, ITF Taekwondo etc.) may participate as spectators only. Also, to prevent competitions from running unnecessarily late into the evening, there will be no demos.

This tournament is by pre-registration only!

There will be no registration at the door
There will be no refunds

 

Early Pre-registration (by April 30, 2007) Cost: $40 per competitor

Competitors who pre-register by April 30, 2007 will also receive a full weekend pass ($10 value) for the 2007 Canadian Junior National Taekwondo Championships, being held at the Harbour Station Multiplex on June 30 and July 1, 2007.

RULES

Sparring
WTF rules will be in effect.

All Colored belt matches will be single eliminations, consisting of 2 rounds of 1 minutes, with a 30 second break.

Sudden death will be in effect for ties. Also, the 7-point gap rule will be utilized in which the match will be immediately awarded to the competitor with a 7-point lead. Also, the match will be awarded to the first competitor to reach 12 points.

Kicking to the head
There is no head contact of any kind allowed during this tournament

Equipment
All colored belt divisions are required to wear full sparring equipment; including head gear, chest protector, mouth guards, shin & instep guards, forearm & hand guards, and a groin protector (mandatory for male competitors only). Note: Taping of the hands and feet will not in itself qualify as "protective equipment". Competitors failing to meet the equipment requirements at the time of their bout will be disqualified. Mouth guards are mandatory.

ITINERARY
8:30 - 10:00 am: Competitors pick up their pre-registration packages and have belt and weight confirmed
10:00 -10:30am: Finalization of division sorting
11:00am: Competitions begin

Competition divisions will be conducted in a hierarchy of belt and age. White belt divisions will compete first. Additional divisions will be called as rings become available.

The 2007 Junior National Taekwondo Games includes the 2007 Canadian Junior National Taekwondo Championships (black belts only) and the 2007 Junior International Taekwondo Championships (coloured belts only). Competitor Eligibility:

The 2007 Junior International Taekwondo Championships is open to all WTF Taekwondo schools in Canada and the United States. Competitors must have a birth date on or after January 1, 1990. That is, if your birth date is in 1989 or earlier, you are not eligible to compete. The event is organized to help prepare our aspiring junior coloured belts for national and international competitions as a future black belt.

To avoid unnecessary confusion, please ensure that you read the entire information package. Also, note the following key items;

  1. this tournament is for sparring only (i.e. no poomse / forms)
  2. this tournament is by pre-registration only (before May 15)
  3. a photocopy of each competitor's birth certificate must be included with the completed registration form
  4. competitors must supply all of their own equipment
  5. there is no head contact for any junior coloured belts
  6. inappropriate behaviour by any competitor, coach or spectator will result in dismissal from the premises. The dismissal will remain in effect until the close of the 2007 Canadian Junior National Taekwondo Championships
  7. only competitors, coaches and tournament officials will be allowed on the competition area. Spectators and parents must remain in the stands
