THE WORLD TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS

If you are curious about some teachers claiming to be 2,  3, 4, 5, 6, and even 7 times World Taekwondo Champions, here you will have the chance to check if this is true or not. I hope that this will help to clarify your curiosity and also answer the questions to those people who send me e-mails asking for this information.

The 1st World Taekwondo Championships organized by the Korea Taekwondo Association were held at the Kukkiwon in Seoul with participation of 200 competitors and officials from 19 countries. They were Austria, Brunei, Canada, Chinese Taipei, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Ivory Coast, Khmer, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Uganda, U.S.A., West Germany and Korea.

The 2nd World Taekwondo Championships were held at Kukkiwon and Jangchoong Gymnasium in Seoul with participation of 165 competitors and 91 officials from 30 countries.

The 3rd World Taekwondo Championships were held at Amphitheater, Chicago, U.S.A. with participation of 720 competitors and officials from 46 countries.

The 4th World Taekwondo Championships were held at Sindelfingen Sports Hall in Stuttgart, Germany with participation of 453 competitors and officials from 38 countries

The 5th World Taekwondo Championships were held in Guayaquil, Ecuador with participation of 500 officials and competitors from 50 countries.

The 6th World Taekwondo Championships were held at the Brondby Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark with participation of 189 officials and competitors from 51 countries.

Sep. 4-3, 1985 - Seoul, Korea
The 7th World Taekwondo Championships were held at Chamsil Gymnasium Seoul, Korea with 776 participants from 63 countries, including 508 officials and competitors, 129 delegates and 42 International Referees.

The 8th World Taekwondo Championships and the 1st Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held at Palau Municipal D'esports in Barcelona, Spain with participation of 292 male and 142 female competitors, 259 officials and 46 referees from 57 countries.

The 9th World Taekwondo Championships and the 2nd Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held at Chamsil Gymnasium in Seoul, Korea with participation of 310 male and 136 female competitors, 246 officials and 46 referees from 59 countries.

The 10th World Taekwondo Championships and the 3rd Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held in Athens, with 273 male and l61 female competitors, 272 officials and 43 IRs participating from 53 countries.

The 11th World Taekwondo Championships and the 4th Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held at Madison Square Garden in New York, U.S.A. with 443 men competitors from 82 countries and 226 women competitors from 54 countries, 474 officials and 100 IRs participating.

The 12th World Taekwondo Championships and the 5th Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held at Folk Arts Theater in Manila, Philippines with 379 men competitors from 74 countries and 219 women athletes from 50 countries and 56 IRs participating.

The 13th World Taekwondo Championships and the 6th Women's World Taekwondo Championships were held at the Butterdome Stadium, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.     with 320 men competitors and 230 women competitors for a total of 550 athletes from 66 countries.
